SkyRidge - ESC Field Trip

Strengthening industry collaboration through practical Erosion and Sediment Control training.

Shadforth actively engages with councils and industry stakeholders to support practical environmental solutions that protect local waterways and communities.

Strengthening Community Engagement

In partnership with Healthy Land and Water (HLW), and Water by Design, Shadforth recently hosted an Erosion and Sediment Control (ESC) training session for Council representatives and ESC stakeholders from across South-East Queensland. Now in its fourth consecutive year at the SkyRidge project, the initiative continues to play an important role in strengthening collaboration, consistency, and shared understanding across the region.

The session brought together approximately 50 participants from multiple local councils, creating a valuable forum to align approaches to erosion and sediment control while openly discussing the practical challenges, risks, and costs associated with effective implementation on active construction sites. By fostering these conversations, the session aimed to support more consistent regulatory expectations and improved on-ground outcomes across the industry.

Delivered as a guided field trip, the training involved visits to four key locations across the SkyRidge site. Each stop showcased different site conditions and ESC measures that had been implemented in response to real-world constraints. Training was delivered onsite by Terry Clark from Topo and Patrick Windsor from Shadforth, who provided practical, industry-focused insights drawn from direct project experience. This approach allowed participants to observe best-practice ESC in action and engage in meaningful discussion around design intent, constructability, and compliance.

The interactive, site-based format encouraged open dialogue between councils and industry practitioners, supporting a shared understanding of the challenges faced in delivering compliant and effective ESC solutions. Importantly, it also reinforced the value of collaboration in achieving environmental protection outcomes that are both practical and sustainable.

Hosting this training for the fourth year has further strengthened Shadforth’s relationships with local councils and Healthy Land and Water, building on a history of collaboration and knowledge sharing. The initiative reinforces Shadforth’s leadership as a contractor committed to best-practice environmental management and proactive engagement, while contributing to clearer, more consistent expectations that benefit future projects, regulators, and the wider community.
