Cans for Kids at Kinma Valley

Turning Site Recycling into Support for Local Kids.

At Shadforth, small initiatives can make a big impact, and Cans for Kids at Kinma is a perfect example of how sustainability and community engagement can come together.

The idea started after noticing the sheer number of recyclable cans piling up in site bins following safety BBQs and team gatherings. Rather than letting these valuable recyclables go to waste, the team saw an opportunity to turn them into something positive, not just for the environment, but for the local community as well.

The concept is straightforward: collect, recycle, and reinvest.

  • Collect - 1000L pod has been set up on-site to collect cans from team BBQs, site meetings, and general recycling efforts.

  • Recycle - Once full, the cans will be cashed in through a recycling program.

  • Reinvest - The funds raised will go towards supporting local children, whether through donations to nearby schools, or by assisting families living close to the project.

The initiative not only supports local kids, but also reinforces sustainable site practices, providing a tangible way for teams to reduce waste while giving back.
