Challenges and Innovations

Delivery of civil works for new school infrastructure presents a unique combination of complexity, time sensitive sequencing and technical demands. Across primary, secondary and multi-campus precincts, projects often require large-scale earthworks, stormwater networks, pavements, carparks and external road upgrades to be completed under compressed government driven timelines.

These complexities are heightened by the need to coordinate staging alongside multiple contractors in fast-moving construction environments, ensuring works progress without disrupting parallel building activities.

Our teams are increasingly deploying sustainable and alternative construction methodologies, with school projects being no different. In recent projects we have:

  • Repurposed excavated material by drying, treating and reusing it beneath sports fields, carparks and pavement structures to significantly reduce waste and imported fill.

  • Delivered advanced stormwater quality systems including bio retention basins, SPEL Stormsack filtration and engineered flow controls that protect waterways and improve site sustainability.

  • Applied high performance ground improvement solutions such as geogrids, rock blankets and engineered fill to stabilise weak subgrades and achieve long lasting pavement outcomes.
