Fourth Avenue Stormwater

Challenges and Innovations

The project had a tight time constraint of five months with Council requiring the project works to be completed and roads reopened before the commencement of the December School holidays. There were unforeseen obstacles that arose due to the condition of the aged existing infrastructure of which this scope of works was required to join onto. This, combined with the added complications of the tidal flows in the 1200mm diameter pipes and requirement to have the drainage remain functioning throughout construction, resulted in the delivery of an intricate project. Through strategic planning, close coordination and responsive project management, the team successfully navigated these challenges and delivered the project on schedule.

Scope of Works

Located adjacent to Maroochydore CBD, in Cotton Tree, the Fourth Avenue Stormwater Infrastructure project saw the upgrade to existing Council infrastructure with the construction of six large pre-cast chambers and 3 cast in-situ manholes. The upgrade required pre-cast chambers up to 2.5m wide and weighing up to 15 Tonnes to be constructed over the existing twin 1200mm diameter stormwater pipes that run parallel with and under the road pavement of Fourth Avenue.
